The EULAR Online Course on Rheumatic Diseases is an electronic form of continuous medical education in rheumatology. The course is managed by a scientific course committee responsible for controlling the structure and content of the course and for ensuring regular quality control and advancement.
The full version of the course covers the entire field of rheumatology and consists of 50 illustrated modules (of which some are optional), each one covering a specific topic. Each module corresponds to approximately 5 - 8 hours of study for the student, totaling around 210 - 336 hours of educational training. The total number of modules to be completed is 42.
The expected learning time per week is calculated around 2 1/2 hours but very flexible for the learners who can enter the learning system at any time and have available free of charge an extra year if needed.
The course operates through the web for the duration of two years with an automatic extension of one year in case the modules are not completed after 2 years or if the exam is failed once. It will finish with an online exam and upon passing, with a EULAR Certificate.
Knowledge and skills are targeted to suit a level of knowledge appropriate for the final years of training as a rheumatologist. The online course was developed with a substantial grant from EULAR and is continuously highly subsidized by EULAR, so that the entire course can be offered at the lowest price possible.
Module structure and final exam
Each online module deals with one particular topic and contains:
The final examination will assess a sample of the learning outcomes from the whole course (90 questions, the chosen optional modules are NOT tested) which will last for 90 minutes. The examination is run annually at a given date and time period for which participants are notified well in advance. Learners should keep in mind that this course is a 2 years course with an additional year granted if required. The first opportunity to take the exam will, therefore, be in October of the 2nd year if all modules are properly completed.
EULAR extends sincere thanks to all authors and contributors for working on a voluntary basis and without compensation to create and regularly update its online courses!
This course starts on 24 September 2018 but registration will be kept open until 30 November 2018.
