9th EULAR Course on Immunology 2026

Next Course in 2026.

This is a course which will take place in Amsterdam, Netherlands, from Friday, 6 February 2026 to Saturday, 7 February 2026.

Course Description

This is a compact, one-and-a-half-day course on immunology with a special emphasis on two hot immunology topics and on the design, interpretation and analysis of basic or translational research projects. The course is designed to facilitate problem- and case-oriented learning to enhance the interactions among participants and between participants and the faculty. Lectures will provide the basic knowledge to the course participants. Participants will work in small groups on specific proposals for research projects in clinical and basic immunology.

Three main sessions will be organised:

  • Basic to Hot topic sessions (with 6 different lectures about adaptive or innate immunity, tissue inflammation and immune tolerance).
  • Discussion of a potential research project. Based on an unsolved research question posed by the faculty, the participants will draft a project using immunological investigational techniques (in vitro, in vivo). Via discussion with the faculty, the project will be improved and refined, so the participants will learn how to optimise approach, methods and controls.
  • Immunology speed dating. This session will allow the participants to get together and with the faculty in a more ‘informal’ environment to share knowledge and ideas.

Learning Objectives

  • The course will raise the knowledge and skills of young rheumatologists and basic researchers working in the field of rheumatology in immunology.
  • The course will be complimentary to the EULAR online course on rheumatic diseases and the EULAR postgraduate course and consolidates the knowledge in immunology in a more practical and interactive way.
  • The course will foster networking and create bonds between the participants to promote future collaborations.

Application Requirements

This is an educational activity targeting young rheumatologist or rheumatology trainee, internal medicine specialist or basic science researcher working in the field of rheumatology.

This course has no specific prerequisites or application requirements; however, applicants should complete the following requested tasks before the start of the course:

  • Questionnaire - 6 short questions, max 150 words per questions.
  • EULAR Online course module: Immunology and the rheumatic diseases. *This module covers the basic knowledge of the subject and gives you a good preparation for the course.

It is also highly recommended to have basic or intermediate knowledge of immunology and have a strong interest in (actively) performing translational research focusing on rheumatic diseases.
