EULAR portfolio for Rheumatology training: a EULAR School of Rheumatology initiative
Description of the project
It is important that rheumatology trainees gain insight into their personal and professional development and get the opportunity to reflect and act on this. A portfolio may support this process. Four assessment forms for rheumatology trainees were developed to include in the EULAR portfolio for Rheumatology training: Mini-Clinical Evaluation Exercise, Direct Observation of Procedural Skills, Case-Based Discussion and Multisource Feedback Form. Implementation of the portfolio may promote a higher standard of rheumatology training and ultimately patient care across Europe.Description of the forms
CASE-BASED DISCUSSION (CbD)A case-based discussion (CbD), is a retrospective workplace‐based assessment method. Essentially, it consists of a structured interview between a supervisor / trainer and a trainee. The CbD focuses on exploring the professional judgement of the trainee in a clinical case that (s)he has encountered and managed autonomously. The CbD is based on clinical documentation produced during that encounter.
DIRECT OBSERVATION OF PROCEDURAL SKILLS (DOPS)
The main goal of Direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS) is to provide structured feedback on the performance of a practical procedure, covering both the technical and the communication aspects.
MINI-CLINICAL EVALUATION EXERCISE (Mini-CEX)
The mini-clinical evaluation exercise (mini-CEX), is a workplace‐based assessment method. It is used to score a direct observation of a doctor/patient clinical encounter by one or more assessor(s).
MULTISOURCE FEEDBACK (MSF)
Multisource feedback (MSF), or 360‐degree feedback, is a survey designed to provide trainees with feedback on how supervisors / trainers, peers (co-workers) and patients rate their performance on key domains of performance behaviours. These domains include: performance on a day to day basis, teamwork behaviours, interpersonal and communication skills, ethical and professional attitudes.
